Amman is a modern, thriving metropolis of over two million people that is the modern and ancient capital of Jordan. The city is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and today its modern buildings blend with the remnants of ancient Roman, Byzantine and Islamic civilisations. The profusion of gleaming white houses, kebab stalls with roasting meat, and tiny cafés where rich Arabian coffee is sipped in the afternoon sunshine, conjure a mood straight from “A Thousand and One Nights.” Visitors to Amman can spend leisurely days exploring the ancient city or haggling over exquisite handmade jewellery and handicrafts in its souks.
Flanked by mountains to the east and the rolling hills of Jerusalem to the west, the Dead Sea sits at the lowest point on earth. When waters reach the Dead Sea they become landlocked and evaporate, which leaves behind a dense, rich, cocktail of salts and minerals that supply industry, agriculture and medicine with some of its finest products. The Dead Sea is one of the most important tourist destinations in Jordan and attracts tens of thousands of visitors from around the world every year.
Aqaba overlooks a vast, turquoise ocean and provides visitors with both fun and a fascinating history. It is home to some outstanding heritage sites, excellent hotels, great shopping and a very warm welcome. Aqaba is also famous for snorkelling and diving and offers an abundance of colorful corals and marine life. Visitors here can swim with schools of multi-coloured fish, friendly sea turtles, dolphins or go night diving to see crabs, lobsters and shrimp who come to life when the rest of the world sleeps.
No matter what people have heard about Petra, nothing quite prepares them for this stunning city with its dazzling colours and rock formations. One of the world’s great wonders, this ancient city is a jewel in Jordan’s crown. This unique settlement was carved out of a sheer rock face by the Nabataeans, an industrious Arab people who came here more than 2,000 years ago, establishing it as an important junction for silk, spice and other trade routes.
Tala Bay is on the northern tip of the Gulf of Aqaba and is renowned for its golden sandy beaches and the warm gentle waters of the Red Sea. The area is a favourite family holiday destination because it offers activities for parents and more than enough fun for children, who can play in a safe environment. Visitors here always have a wonderful time whether they’re into water sports, looking for adventure or just want some peace and quiet.
