Bursa City Tour (Half Day) Travel to Bursa, the first capital of the Ottoman Empire, one of the greatest treasure houses of Islamic architecture and the birthplace of Turkish Karagdz shadow puppet theatre. On the south side of the city is the handsome late 19th Century house where Atatürk, the “Father of Modern Turkey”, stayed during his many visits to the city. Now a museum, it contains furniture and personal effects belonging to Atatürk and a variety of documentation on his life. Visit the Muradiye Mosque, built by Sultan Murat II on a hill northeast of the city, the Ulumay Museum of Ottoman Fold Costumes and Jewellery and Tophane, site of an old cannon foundry where you can find a café to drink Turkish coffee as you take in the view of the city. After lunch, visit the Bursa Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts with its impressive selection of Ottoman works including ceramics, woodcarvings and weaponry. There is also a traditional Turkish bath and coffee house and Bursa City Museum, which celebrates the rich history of the Marmara area and works created by local craftsmen, ranging from wood carvings to the finest hand-woven Turkish rugs.
